The French Broad River's watershed covers an area of 5,124 square miles in both North Carolina and Tennessee. Originating on the western and northern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the
French Broad proper begins at Rosman, North Carolina, 35 miles southwest of Asheville where four tributaries converge.
